Tucker is a six year-old Great Dane/Bernese Mountain Dog mix. He is neutered, has a current rabies vaccination, and is on monthly heartworm preventative and frontline. Some of Tucker's personality/characteristics:
- Gets along with other dogs, big and small.
- Gets along with cats, although he likes to run after them when they run... we are working on that. He is fine when they are walking/standing/sittng/laying around. He likes to nudge them and poke them with his nose and sometimes gets a little 'chewy,' but nothing aggressive.
- Congenial, easy-going, happy-go-lucky kind of guy - good disposition.
- He barks but only when excited or when someone comes to the door or walks by while he is in the fenced yard. It's an imposing bark.
- He has not had one accident in the house.
- He has a good appetite. I feed him in the morning and evening. Two cups of kibble each feeding, mixed with about a tablespoon or so to make 'gravy.'
- He is curious about just about everything in a very good-natured way.
- His sits and lays down on command. Not so good with the 'stay' command, though :-)
- He is gentle when accepting treats from your hand.
Some extra information:
- He is learning to lay on the doggy bed instead of the hardwood floor.
- I have been using a raised feeder with him. For his size, I think this is healthier for him.
- I have been giving him a supplment in his food. He is pretty narrow through the hips and, although he does not appear to have any hip issues at this time, this is something to keep an eye on.
- He has become quite attached and likes to follow me around the house.
- When he gets in play mode, he gets mouthy and will put your arm in his mouth but he doesn't close down.
- He is also a little humpy
So, in a nutshell, he is a very sweet dog. He has only had one owner his entire life. So, I am impressed with how good he has been while living with me this past week.
