Sammy is a beautiful 4 year old Harlequin Great Dane. She’s petite for a Dane weighing in around 85 pounds. She is spayed, up to date on all recommended vaccines, parasite free, on flea, tick and heartworm preventative, has had full blood work and a dental cleaning this month. She has no major medical problems that we’re aware of and we’ve been her veterinarian since 2007.
Sammy is a very sweet girl but she has shown some fear-aggression and possessive behaviors. For this reason, we do not recommend that she go to a home with children or other pets. In addition, Sammy’s new adoptive home will need to be experienced with the breed and demonstrate the ability to help her overcome her fears through an extensive screening and adoption process. No first time dog or first time Dane owners will be considered. There will be an adoption fee to help cover the cost of her medical care.
Update 4/4/10 - Sammy is getting better at trusting people. We have been walking her on a gentle leader and she is so happy to be out in the sunshine, that she rarely barks at people. She is still very intimidated by men and we are working on her manners. Sammy really wants to find a forever home of her own!
