Artie - formerly King Arthur, is a petite mantle with cropped and sometimes standing ears. He came into rescue just 2 months shy of his 9th birthday due to a divorce and the family losing their home. Artie spent 3 weeks in a garage and also lost his 17 year old Dachshund sleeping buddy at the same time. Consequently he is thin, and has lost some of the muscle in his back legs. Artie is very active and playful for his age and loves to play with toys, go for walks and rides great in the car. He’s good with kids and dogs, but will chase cats. Artie loves to snuggle. He’s been doing great in light of all the recent changes in his life. He’s not thrilled with hardwood floors. Partly because he’s not used to not having any traction, but with the loss of muscle in his rear end he sometimes slips. Artie lifts his back legs up when he walks and when he puts them down on the hardwood floor it sounds like he’s marching. With ready access to a backyard, Artie is trustworthy in the house and has shown no interest in chewing. Artie has been neutered and brought up to date on his shots and he’d love to spend his senior years in a carpeted forever home. During his neuter, two growths were removed. One on his back toe was a benign fibroma, but one on his ear was a grade II mast cell tumor. The biopsy said the tumor had clean margins and consequently the entire tumor has been removed. Artie continues to do well. He loves squeaky toys and is an early riser. He is gradually putting on weight and enjoys running in the backyard with the Big Dogs. Artie came to MAGDRL in September 2011.
