Maggie Mae - Meet this magnificent girl! Very sweet and loving, patient and gentle, Maggie Mae is going to be a wonderful addition to any family. Maggie is a 1 ½ year old spayed Merle female with natural ears. She’s about 100 pounds and stands about 39” tall at the head. Her original owners gave her up on Craigslist and we have been very lucky to have worked with her. Maggie is crated trained (she puts herself in her crate to nap daily), is excellent on the leash, and loves to play by herself with her toys. She enjoys a good jog through the back yard and hopes you will chase her. She isn’t currently living with another dog although she has in the past and she really enjoys playing with the neighbor’s dog whenever she can. She’s currently living with 3 indoor cats that she will investigate and then leave alone. She has previously lived with young children and has done well with meeting the neighbors’ kids. She doesn’t have any formalized training but she is very smart and is picking up on some behavioral work we are doing with her. She takes her treats very gently from your hand and knows how to wait quietly for you to give her the OK before eating. Maggie is also great in the car; she usually just lies down and snoozes. She does not bark much but she’ll let you know when someone is at the door. She has been an excellent patient for our recent routine vet checkups and allowed us to trim her nails at home. Maggie is timid in new situations and meets new people at her own speed so she needs a family who is willing to keep working to expose her to new people, sights and experiences on a regular basis. Once she gets to know you, you have a lovey dog to lean on you and give you “noses.”
Maggie has a heart murmur but a recent checkup by a cardiologist revealed that her heart is strong right now and she does not need to be on medication. Her future owners should expect to monitor her health with regards to this issue but right now she is an active girl. She had an FHO surgery on her left hind leg about a year ago that has left her with a slight limp but that has not slowed her down any. When you meet her, you will see she moves about well and has good mobility (she can go up and down long flights of stairs just fine). The best thing her new family can do for her is continue to walk her daily to keep her active and healthy.
If you are looking for a companion, this is the girl for you as she wants to be wherever you are.
Please don’t pass up the chance to meet Maggie Mae!
